James Gibbons-Shapiro
James Gibbons-Shapiro grew up in San Jose, attended Gunderson High School, Yale University, and UCLA Law School. He has worked at the Santa Clara County DA’s Office for 28 years, where he supervises the Family Violence Team (domestic violence, child abuse, and elder abuse), the Victim Services Unit, and White-Collar Crime prosecutions. He chairs the County’s Domestic Violence Death Review Team, and the committees to update the County’s Domestic Violence Protocol for Law Enforcement and the Child Abuse Protocol for Law Enforcement. He serves on the County’s Domestic Violence Council, and the Child Abuse Prevention Council. He was one of the leaders that established the Santa Clara County Children’s Advocacy Center, and its second location in South County. In addition to his work with Kids In Common, he serves on the Board of Directors for Hunger at Home, a non-profit addressing food insecurity in our community.
James believes that Kids in Common's provision of reliable data and training on issues related to the safety and well-being of children in our community is vital in helping policy-makers, organizations, and individuals to serve our kids in the most effective ways.
